Welcome to Good Scents

Elevating Your Dog’s Natural Abilities Through K9 Nose Work®

At Good Scents, we believe in unlocking the full potential of your dog’s remarkable olfactory abilities through an enriching scent work course: K9 Nose Work® (K9NW℠). Developed by the National Association of Canine Scent Work® (NACSW℠) in the USA, this methodology brings detection-style scent work to companion dogs in a safe, comfortable, and fun environment.

What is K9 Nose Work®?

K9 Nose Work® is a structured, engaging activity that allows your dog to harness its natural hunting and scenting abilities. Dogs are trained to independently search for specific odours and alert their handlers to the presence of these scents. This training not only provides mental stimulation and physical exercise, but also builds confidence and strengthens the bond between you and your pet.

Course Structure:

  • 3-MONTH FOUNDATION LEVEL:

The game begins! In this level we introduce your dog to the game of scent work with the aim to comfortably have your dog searching for a specific odour indoors and out. Environmental thresholds are managed to build your dog’s confidence weekly. Handler observation and leash skills are developed.

  • 3-MONTH INTERMEDIATE LEVEL:

Problem solving skills and challenges are presented at a deeper level in this course. Complex exteriors, vehicle searches, different environments, and weather patterns all await our intermediate handler and dog teams.

You must have completed the Foundation level to progress to Intermediate level.

Benefits of K9 Nose Work®:

K9 Nose Work® offers numerous benefits for both dogs and their owners:

  • Mental Stimulation: Scent work engages your dog’s brain, providing a fulfilling mental workout.

  • Physical Exercise: The active nature of scent searches provides excellent physical exercise.

  • Confidence and Independence: As dogs learn to navigate scent challenges, their confidence and independence increase.

  • Strengthened Bond: Working together on scent tasks can significantly enhance the bond between you and your dog.

  • Accessible to All Dogs: The course is open to all dogs, regardless of size, breed, age, or experience level.
